Are you ticking boxes or kicking goals?

It can be tempting to focus on completing tasks on your never-ending marketing to-do list, keeping your head above water as wave after wave of requests and demands roll on in.

But how often do you take the time to look at the results of all your efforts? To refine, to optimise, to adjust your marketing activity to ensure it meets your objectives.

For too many businesses, getting it done is more important than asking “why are we doing it?” or “how exactly is it helping us meet our business objectives?”.

Or worse, we do look at results, but find we are measuring the wrong things, such as vanity metrics not sales and revenue.

Take a step back to take a couple forward

It’s a good idea to regularly check your marketing activity to make sure it’s doing what you expected, and to take the opportunity to reset as required.

But when you are caught up in the day-to-day pressure of just getting everything done, before you know it, the year is half over and you’re none the wiser as to how your marketing programs are performing.

You may have even inherited a marketing program from a predecessor, or been told “it’s what we do here and it’s always worked for us”. In these cases, the imperative to analyse and examine the cost-benefit of these programs is even more critical.

Habits can be costly

Doing what you’ve always done without reflection could cost you dearly. Missed opportunities to revise or optimise your messaging or media mix can lead to inefficiencies. And the longer you spend heading in the wrong direction, the further away from your goal you’ll end up.

Now don’t get me wrong. We love good marketing habits, and what we call ‘set and forget’ marketing activity.

But there’s a big disclaimer.

We advocate consistent content marketing programs that have built-in accountability and reporting. Good marketing habits include the ritual of review and reset – it’s a non-negotiable part of all our programs, and it’s how we make sure we stay on track (and you get good results).

But I’m too busy just getting it done

I hear you! It’s hard enough to actually keep consistent marketing programs going, let alone find the time to dissect and reset as you go. That’s what we can help with.

Not only do you get built-in reporting and optimisation when you outsource content marketing to us, you also get to go hands-off on the ideation, creation and publishing of your content.

Box ticked. And goal kicked.
